KEFALOS/KAMARI – FINE WHITE SAND AND SOME SHINGLE Kamari or Kefalos Beach lies in the south-west approx 2km from the resort of the same name which as sprung up by the village that bares the same name. The beach consists of soft, fine white sand and has crystal clear water; however the sea in this area is possibly the coldest on the island. Many visitors prefer to be based here at night and spend the days on Bubble or Paradise Beach across the bay where the sea is warmer. Approx 4km long it stretches almost to Agios Stefanos. The beach is well organised sun beds, brollies and the usual water sports are available. The areas well established with some souvenir and grocery shops, bars, cafes, a few really good tavernas providing very fine cuisine and there’s even a few clubs for those dancing moments. Places to visit – Byzantine church, ruins of Astypalia amphitheatre, Asti Petra cave, Monastery of Agios Ioannis (St. John), you can swim to the Isle of Kastri, There is a small port for small fishing and excursion boats to visit the near by Islands of Pserimos and Nisyros, or Rhodes but it might to be an idea to visit here as a full holiday the journey takes just over 3 hours.
